Africa has experienced more than 200 years of missions. "But one key factor - the huge Scripture shortage - prevents converts from becoming all God wants them to be," says Bible League's Director of African Ministries.
In 2004, for the first time Bible League published its own Scriptures in Hausa and Swahili - the first (heart) languages for more than 64 million people. This paves the way for meeting more of the Scripture shortage for years to come.
Last year, Bible League provided 3,260,362 Scriptures to Africa. This means we had to say "No" to about 200 million believers who still await the opportunity to study and own a copy of God's Word.
Your partnership helps Bible League equip faithful workers throughout Africa with God's Word to make disciples. Last year, 653,134 people graduated from a Bible study and 753 new churches were established.
Bible League manages to get Scripture to Africa and importantly we also teach people how to read and study the Bible for themselves. People complete a Bible study (Project Philip) before we give them Scriptures. That way we ensure that our limited supplies go to people who faithfully use them.
The hunger for God's Word is great. "Our literacy ministry through Bible study is a community event," says a Bible League coordinator for Ghana. "I attended a session that began with 25 people. We sat in a dark yard around a kerosene lamp. The group was so focused and attentive, you could hear a whisper. By the third night of training and study, 200 people gathered!"
It costs only £2.70 to print, ship, and place a Bible in a Christian worker's hands.
That Christian worker can then use it to disciple a person to the point of baptism
and church membership.
Where else can you have such an impact for only £2.70 ?
Help provide Scriptures for discipleship in Africa.
