Believers in India face opposition at almost every turn. When new believers come to Christ with no other support, many face especially hard times.
Bible League-trained workers in one Southern Indian village wanted to minister to a needy family but they explained, "When we went to their house, some extremist youths surrounded us. They tore away our Bibles and beat us. They threatened to kill us. But we will continue without fear."
Another Christian worker, threatened with rape and murder said, "I will still go, come what may! The people need our Lord."
Over the past 50 years, India's Christian population has grown from 50,000 to 20 million despite anti-conversion laws and fierce opposition.
"We thought the Christian religion belonged only to rich people," says a couple in southern India. "But then we sat with a brother and read the
Project Philip study books. We understood that Jesus does not need animal blood and He does not want only educated people. He loves all equally! We became Christians and our lives are transformed."
In 2004, Bible League workers reported these ministry accomplishments: 904,364 Scriptures provided, 264,191 Bible study graduates, 343 new churches established
